Wow, it’s surprising that Illinois has (a) any points, (b) kept Missouri off the board, and (c) has a lead. Granted, it’s 3-0 after 15 minutes.
The coaching staff is playing to the team’s strengths, unlike the last three years. The D-Line is getting pressure even on just a three man rush. The secondary doesn’t look terrible yet, but that’s because Missouri isn’t making good decisions. Bad play call on the first drive to throw a screen, then poor QB decision to go deep when there was an open man underneath for a first down.
Of course, Gabbert’s accuracy has been about on par with Juice as a freshman so far.
Scheelhaase hasn’t looked good, but he hasn’t looked bad. As a freshman QB, it’s sometimes OK to just plain look bad. So, we’ve got that goin’ for us.
Another secondary injury? Justin Green was supposed to be our #3 RB and future top draft pick. Pay attention to #5 Steve Hull. He was supposed to be a true freshman WR, who might fight for catches this year, but has been moved to safety.
